LRT-1 Cavite Extension Opens, Bringing Relief and Opportunity

The first phase of the long-awaited LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project commenced operations on Saturday, November 16th, offering commuters a faster, more comfortable alternative to the daily traffic grind. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inaugurated the extension on Friday and encouraged the public to experience the benefits firsthand.

New Stations and Reduced Travel Times

This initial phase extends the LRT-1 line by 6 kilometers, connecting Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City. Five new stations have been added:

  • Redemptorist - ASEANA Station
  • MIA Road Station
  • Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) Station
  • Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station
  • Dr. Santos Station (formerly Sucat Station)

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) projects this extension to cut travel time between Parañaque City and Quezon City by nearly an hour. The complete LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project, encompassing eight stations and reaching Bacoor, Cavite, aims to reduce travel time from Baclaran to Bacoor to a mere 25 minutes.

Boosting Capacity and Economic Growth

The LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 is anticipated to accommodate an additional 80,000 passengers daily, adding to the current ridership of 323,000. Upon completion of the entire extension, the line's capacity will be further augmented by 300,000 passengers thanks to the addition of 120 four-car fourth-generation light rail vehicles.

The project is also poised to create new opportunities for businesses, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), in Pasay and Parañaque cities, by improving connectivity.

Continued Investment in Rail Transport

During the inauguration ceremony, President Marcos reaffirmed his administration's commitment to enhancing the country's railway system. He pledged to continue expanding the network to meet the growing needs of the people.

Here are some snapshots of my journey, starting from Redemptorist Station and going all the way to Dr. Santos Station. The ride was smooth, and the new stations were impressive, offering a glimpse into how this extension is making commuting more accessible for everyone.

It was exciting to see the progress and convenience this extension has brought to commuters. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend giving it a go!
